Water Pollution by Jerald Tan Jen Rong 4Loyalty

The environmental issue that will be discussed in the following is water pollution. It is the contamination of the water we drink and use.

I chose this issue because I feel that water is important to everyone, hence if it is polluted, we will not be able to use it. In our daily lives, we use water in many different ways such as drinking & washing. If we drink dirty water, we might get sick and even die.

There are many causes for water pollution. One of them is because raw sewage just flows into rivers, making it polluted.

One more cause is because of oil spills. They are accidental but nonetheless harmful as they can kill many sea animals. They are also hard to clean up and may take years.

In certain countries, when there is a shortage of water supply, it is used for different purposes. Man and animals have to compete for the same source of water, making it more polluted.

The effects of this pollution are many. For example, they damage coral reefs under the sea. Fishes are also poisoned by mercury in the sea. People have shortage of clean water.

We can play our part to prevent water pollution. Start by not littering or clean up a beach. The government must also help by passing laws that regulate everything, from the quality of drinking water to industrial discharge.

It is relevant to the issue because if anyone of us is in that state and drinks the water, we will get sick and might die.

It is relevant to the issue because it shows the sewage contaminating the river.

This photo depicts fishes killed by an oil spill.
It is relevant to the issue because it shows how polluted waters caused by an oil spill can cause the fish to die.

This photo depicts man and animals using the same source of water.
It is relevant to the issue because it shows how water is dirtied, because of the lack of clean water in poorer countries. The same source of water is used for different purposes.

It is relevant to the issue because it shows how fish are affected by the mercury in the water.
