Deforestation by Hwang Gyubin 4Kindness

Picture 1: feel that it is relevant to the topic because it pictures the square kilometers of forests cut down in Brazil.

The above photo shows the area of forests in the Brazilian Amazon cut down from1988 to2008. It is relevant to the issue because it pictures the square kilometers of forests cut down in the Brazilian Amazon, which can safely be called the Earth’s Lung. This Scene is not only happening in Brazil, but in countries all over the world.
Picture 2: The above picture shows a case of deforestation in Dang, Nepal. t is relevant to the issue because it shows deforestated land.

Picture 3: The above picture shows a case of deforestation in Dang, Nepal. t is relevant to the issue because it shows deforestated land.
Picture 4: The above pictures shows trees cut down in a forest. I feel that it is relevant to the issue because it shows an area of land deforested. (the photo is fuzzy)
Picture5: The above picture shows stumps of trees that were cut down in Bolivia. I feel that it is relevant to the issue because these tree stumps above mean that there are fewer trees to take in carbon dioxide and release fresh air.

The environmental issue I will focus on is deforestation. I chose this issue because it is serious and contributes to other environmental problems like extinction of plant and animal species, global warming and desertification.

Forests as big as 50 football fields are being cut down every minute. Deforestation is serious, because forests protect us from many of the natural disasters, such as floods and landslides. If deforestation continues, all living things on earth will not be able to survive, because trees take in carbon dioxide and release fresh air. We will also be vulnerable to natural disasters and other forest-dwelling animals will lose their habitat. Many animals are extinct and many more will soon follow if deforestation stops-at least reduced. Causes of deforestation can be sub-divided into human and natural causes.

Some human causes of deforestation are: expanding cities, lack of farming land, and cutting trees down simply to provide energy for places like factories. Some natural causes are as following: wildfires, drought and storms. Both human and natural causes of deforestation are serious. For example; a storm may have the power to uproot a whole tree, which cannot be helped. Meanwhile, human deforestation can be reduced.

A few weeks back in the newspapers, an article stated that an endangered Sumatran tiger mauled 6 men to death, because they were illegally cutting trees down and disturbing its habitat. The article also states that forest clearances are one of the reasons the Sumatran tiger is endangered.

Now that you know how serious deforestation is, here are some things you can do to reduce deforestation: use less paper products, recycle old magazines and newspapers and most importantly of all, plant trees.

I want to emphasise that we should do our best to reduce deforestation in countries.
