The above picture shows two children drinking water from the polluted drain.
This picture is relevant to the topic because to most poor people do not get access to clean water , and the major problem of water-borne diseases that are claiming one child every three seconds.

The above picture shows many hungry African children.
It is relevant to the topic because it reflects on another major problem of poverty – starvation. Many children are suffering from malnutrition and starvation which claims many lives a day.

This is a haunting photo of a vulture stalking a Sudanese girl who’d collapsed on her way to a feeding station. The child was starving to death and the vulture was waiting for her to die so it can have a good meal.

It is relevant because this picture has helped awaken the world about the effect of poverty. Many people reacted after this shocking photo was published.

The above picture shows the Haitian slum of Cite Soleil, thousands of people make this rubbish dump their home. The children are scavenging for food that can fill their hunger.

It is relevant to the topic because many of the poor do not have land to build their houses on hence, using places like rubbish dumps to build their homes.

The above photos shows many child slaves working hard on the fields.
It is relevant as it reflects on the issue of child slaves .Many children of poor families become the victim as the family needs them to earn money.

Introduction
The social issue that I will focus is poverty in today’s world. I chose this issue because I’ll like to share with you on how badly people are suffering because of poverty and what type of life the poor lead.
Poverty
While we live in proper and luxury life with plenty to eat, it is difficult to imagine that on the other side of the globe, there are so many people who don’t even have a shelter and are dying of hunger.
Many poor people do not have homes to live in, and take refuge in parks, lobbies, and even subways. Some live in open desert and some even make the rubbish dump their home.

Hunger and diseases is a major problem. Just in Africa alone, there are 32 million malnourished children. Starvation is claiming countless lives. It is so great in Africa that most of the children under five years old had starved to death before we arrived.

The poor also do not have access to clean water
A child dies every three seconds from water-borne diseases. Many lives are being claimed for lack of clean water and diseases such as AIDS, malaria, pneumonia and typhoid fever are killing record numbers as well.
Poverty also leads to a social issue, crime. As the poor need money, they often force their children to become child slaves, child prostitution and child traffickers. Further more, many of the poor are lured by the urge of getting quick cash and commit crimes like stealing and robbing .Some even commit crimes like suicide bombing or kidnapping for terrorists who would pay their families huge sums of money.

Conclusion
We should count ourselves lucky that do not live in conditions the poor do. We must treasure what we have and learn to share with the less fortunate.
